Where to find actions

Actions.png

ActionFilled.png Actions are displayed as steps within the RigFlow workflow interface. Users can interact with them using the Global Action Bar at the bottom of the screen. This bar enables adding, editing, and managing actions.

You can read more about the difference between actions and steps here: What is the difference between actions and steps?.

Step-by-step instructions

Adding an action

  1. Select the ActionFilled.png action: Actions can be added directly through the Global Action Bar. By clicking the ActionFilled.png action icon on either a Primary lane primary or Parallel lane parallel step, you can choose from three main options:

    • Start_next.png Complete ongoing step: This option completes the current ongoing step and adds the new action as a separate, standalone step.

    • Pause.png Pause ongoing step: This option pauses the current ongoing step, allows the new action to be executed, and then resumes the paused step once the new action is completed.

    • Parallel lane Run in parallel: This option adds the new action to run concurrently with the ongoing step, typically for tasks that are related but independent from the current activity.

  2. Define the ActionFilled.png action: After clicking the ActionFilled.png action icon, a list of available actions will appear. Select the appropriate action for the task at hand. You can also mark frequently used actions as Star.png favorites for easier access in future operations.

Editing an action

  1. Click the EditFilled.png edit icon: To edit codes and titles from an action, click the EditFilled.png edit icon on its corresponding global action bar card.

  2. Select new codes: Use the edit code picker to select the most accurate code from the dropdown list. Choose the one that best represents the action being documented.

  3. Edit the title: Click the edit title bar to edit or enter a new title. Be specific and descriptive; the title becomes the headline in reports and supports the quick understanding of ongoing or past steps.

  4. Edit a completed action: Open the Operation log Operation Log, scroll to find the Action you want to modify, and click on it to open the Action details modal. From there, you can update the action type, title, crew, class code, time code, and add comments. Read more about it here: Operation Log

Completing an action

The Complete button allows users to finalize an ActionFilled.png action, ensuring the workflow progresses to the next planned step. This can be done by completing the current action or starting the next one in the sequence.

Examples

  • Unplanned maintenance: Add a Pause or Parallel Action if equipment fails during a step.

  • Safety checks: Use Parallel Action to run safety inspections without halting operations.

  • Custom Titles: E.g., instead of a generic label, write “Top Drive Motor Inspection” to clearly convey what occurred.

Tips and tricks

  • Utilize parallel actions: Parallel Actions are useful for handling auxiliary tasks that need to occur simultaneously with the primary operation, such as safety checks or equipment preparation.

  • Flexibility in action types: Depending on the situation, choose the appropriate type of action to minimize disruption and ensure efficient workflow management.
